Key Broncos Free Agent Signing Explains How Denver Pummeled LA
USA TODAY Sports

Whatever was the hope for the playoffs for the Los Angeles Chargers season prior to their Week 14 matchup is long gone. The Chargers dropped a crucial game to their division rival, the Denver Broncos, in front of their home fans.

The Chargers were outmanned and outplayed for the entire game. The Broncos proved to be the superior team, and the Chargers... well, the Chargers are... they're done for the year.

With or without star quarterback Justin Herbert, the Chargers looked like burnt toast, and most of the credit goes to the Broncos' defense.

After the game, Broncos defensive end Zach Allen spoke to team reporter Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post and talked about what went right for him and his team.

“Instead of survival, you’re trying to excel, which is the way defense is made to be played,” said Allen, a centerpiece of the Broncos’ free agency play who played the first four years of his career for Joseph in Arizona. “VJ, he calls a great game and everyone is going to get their opportunities. It’s a really fun defense to be a part of.

“This is the best defense, by far, I’ve ever been a part of. It’s the most fun we’ve had playing football right now.”

The Broncos defense showed up to play, holding the Bolts to 283 total yards, 76 rushing yards, two turnovers, and held the Bolts to 0-for-12 in third-down efficiency and 1-for-6 in fourth-down efficiency.

Credit to the Broncos, but once again, the Chargers couldn't do anything to plant their foot in the game and let their division rivals have their way with them. The Chargers are as good as done when it comes to the playoff picture, and it came at the hands of their long-time rival.

With four games remaining and Herbert's status looking bleak, this season looks all but over—a phenomenon that would have been impossible to think about just four months ago.
