Rodon Says 'Got Some Stuff to Prove' For Yankees
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Yankees enter the year looking to bounce back after one of the worst seasons in franchise history in 2023. For a Yankees team that has the talent to get the job done, there's no excuse for them not to compete.

New York added Juan Soto, Marcus Stroman, and others who can help them reach their goal. However, what happens this season could come down to how Carlos Rodon looks.

Rodon signed a six-year, $162 million contract last offseason.

To say that his first season in the Bronx was a disappointment would be an understatement.

Rodon was one of the worst pitchers in baseball, posting an ERA of 6.85 in 64 1/3 innings. Injuries didn't help and were likely most of the problem for the struggles, but he has to improve this season if the Yankees want to be the contending team they're looking to become.

The left-hander understands that and had the following to say about the 2024 season, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post.

"I just feel like I got some stuff to prove and I want to stay on the field a lot longer than I did last year," he said.

If New York gets the version of Rodon that's one of the best pitchers in baseball, they'll find themselves in an excellent position. Gerrit Cole continues to prove he's arguably the best in the game, Stroman had an excellent 2023 season, and the offense is improved.

Outside of overall health, Rodon's the X factor.

Kicking off Spring Training healthy will be a step in the right direction for Rodon. A few good starts and he should regain his confidence and perform the way he was expected to.
